Pick Your Own Flowers: A Few Farms Worth the Drive from Toronto

Local flowers in May Flowers' studio floor

There’s something different about flowers when you’ve picked them yourself. And luckily, you don’t have to go very far from Toronto to do it. Late summer is one of the best times to visit a flower farm, with dahlias, zinnias, cosmos, celosia, sunflowers and all kinds of specialty blooms filling the fields.

Here is a list of some of the farms we not only love visiting, but they’re some of the growers we source from throughout the season, and people we’re lucky to call friends in the local flower community. We love knowing where our flowers come from and supporting the small farms growing them right here in Ontario. If you’ve ever wondered where some of the flowers in our arrangements begin their journey, this is a good place to start.

French Blooms at Robintide Farms

Just north of Toronto in Maple, French Blooms offers one of the closest full pick-your-own flower experiences to the city. Their two-acre field has more than 50 varieties of flowers, including dahlias, zinnias, cosmos, lisianthus, gladiolus, sunflowers and scabiosa.

The experience is intentionally unhurried, you’re given a jar and clippers and can spend some time wandering the rows before filling it with your favourites. Their 2026 pick-your-own season runs Thursday through Sunday from mid-July into the fall.

Country Cut Flowers

If you want your flower-picking outing to feel a little more like a countryside escape, head north to King Township. Country Cut Flowers sits among rolling hills and flower fields just outside Newmarket.

Their cut-your-own experiences are ticketed and scheduled in advance, so this one requires a little planning. But that's part of the charm: it's a chance to slow down, wander through the flowers and make a bouquet without feeling rushed. There are no drop-ins, so book ahead and bring your own scissors or garden snips.

Field Notes in Uxbridge

For something a little quieter, keep an eye on Field Notes in Uxbridge. Their pick-your-own experiences are offered on selected dates through the summer, with evening and Saturday morning sessions designed to be smaller and more relaxed. Field Notes

It's the kind of place we'd choose when the goal isn't just to come home with flowers, but to spend a few hours outside and enjoy the whole experience.

Their 2026 pick-your-own dates run through July to September, so check their schedule before planning a visit.

A little flower-farm etiquette

A few things are worth remembering when you visit a flower farm: only cut flowers in the designated picking areas, follow the farm's instructions, and don't assume every flower you see is available to cut. Farms are working businesses, and what's blooming can change quickly with the weather.

And most importantly, don't worry about making a “perfect” bouquet. Pick the flowers you like. That's the whole point.

Late summer is when the fields really start showing off, so if you've been meaning to visit a local flower farm, now is a pretty good time.

Flower availability, hours and ticket requirements can change with weather and growing conditions. Check directly with each farm before heading out.
