Bird of Paradise Care Instructions:
- Light: Thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. It can tolerate direct morning light, but harsh afternoon sun may scorch its leaves. Insufficient light may slow growth and prevent flowering.
- Water: Water thoroughly, allowing the top 2–3 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Avoid letting the plant sit in standing water to prevent root rot.
- Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. Increase humidity with a pebble tray, misting, or a humidifier, especially in dry environments.
- Temperature: Keep the plant in temperatures between 65–85°F (18–29°C). Avoid exposure to cold drafts or temperatures below 50°F (10°C).
- Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Pause feeding in fall and winter.
- Pruning: Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves to encourage healthy growth. Wipe the leaves regularly to keep them free of dust and maximize light absorption.
- Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use a well-draining potting mix, such as one designed for tropical plants.
- Flowering Tips: To encourage blooms, provide ample light, consistent care, and a touch of patience. It may take 3–5 years for a Bird of Paradise to flower indoors.
