Description
Monstera deliciosa, commonly known as the Swiss Cheese Plant or Split-Leaf Philodendron, is a popular and iconic houseplant known for its large, fenestrated leaves. To keep your Monstera thriving and growing vigorously, follow these care instructions:
Light |
Monstera plants prefer bright, indirect light. Place them near a window with filtered sunlight. They can tolerate lower light conditions, but to encourage healthy growth and fenestration, provide them with bright, indirect light. |
Water |
Water your Monstera thoroughly when the top inch (2.5 cm) of the soil feels dry. Allow excess water to drain from the pot to prevent overwatering and root rot. During the growing season (spring and summer), they require more frequent watering, but reduce watering during the cooler months (fall and winter). |
Soil | Use well-draining and nutrient-rich potting soil for your Monstera. A mix containing peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark or sand works well to provide good drainage and aeration. |
Temperature | Keep the temperature around your Monstera between 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C). They can tolerate slightly cooler temperatures, but avoid exposing them to temperatures below 50°F (10°C) as they are sensitive to cold. |
Humidity | Monstera plants appreciate higher humidity levels, ideally between 60% to 80%. If the air in your home is dry, mist the leaves regularly or use a room humidifier to maintain adequate humidity. |
Toxicity |
Monstera plants are considered mildly toxic if ingested. Keep them out of reach of children and pets to ensure their safety. |
